The Louvre: From Royal Fortress to the World's Largest Museum

The most visited museum on earth started as a medieval fortress in 1190, became a royal palace, was converted to a museum during the Revolution, and now holds 600,000 objects across 73,000 square metres — of which 35,000 are on display.
